Folklore of West Sumatra
One day, there lived a family in the coastal area of Sumatra. The family has a son named Malin Kundang. Due to very poor condition of their family, then the master's father decided to go to the country side.
Hopefully master and his mother, one day his father came back with a lot of money that will be able to buy daily necessities. After months and months turned out to master the father did not come, and eventually pupuslah expectations Malin Kundang and mother.
After Malin Kundang growing up, he thought to make a living in the country side in the hope of later when he returned to his hometown, he had become a wealthy man. Malin Kundang finally come sailing along with a merchant ship captain in his hometown that has been successful.
During his stay on board, Malin Kundang lot to learn about seamanship on the crew who are already experienced. Malin studied hard about shipping his friends who are more experienced, and finally he is very adept in terms of shipping.
Many islands already visited, until one day in the middle of the journey, suddenly climbed Malin Kundang ship attacked by pirates. All merchandise traders who were on the ship seized by pirates. Even most of the crew and people on the ship were killed by the pirates. Malin Kundang very lucky he was not killed by the pirates, because when it happened, Malin immediately hid in a small space that is enclosed by a wood.
Malin Kundang adrift on the high seas, and finally board the ship stranded on a beach. With the rest of the existing power, Malin Kundang walked to the nearest village from the coast. Arriving at the village, Malin Kundang helped by the people in the village after previously telling what happened to him. Malin village where villagers stranded is very fertile. With tenacity and perseverance in work, Malin gradually managed to become a wealthy man. It has a lot of merchant ships with a crew of more than 100 people. Having become rich, Malin Kundang marry a girl to be his wife.
After a long marriage, Malin and his wife set sail with a large and beautiful ship with crew and bodyguards that much. Mother Malin Kundang every day waiting on her, looking very beautiful ship, the entrance to the harbor. He saw two people standing on the deck of the ship. He believes that it is his standing and his wife Malin Kundang.
Malin Kundang stepped down from the boat. He was greeted by his mother. Once close enough, his mother saw twelve dilengan injured person's right, the more assured his mother that he was approached Malin Kundang. "Malin Kundang, my son, why did you go so long without sending any news?", He said, hugging Malin Kundang. But Kundang immediately release his mother's arms and pushed it fell. "Women do not know themselves, carelessly claimed as my mother," said Malin Kundang his mother. Malin Kundang pretended not to recognize her, because of shame with her old mother and dressed in rags. "She's your mother?" The wife asked Malin Kundang. "No, he was just a beggar who pretended claiming to be my mother to get my treasure," Malin said to his wife. Hearing the statement and mistreated by her mother Malin Kundang very angry. He is not expected her to be a rebellious child. Because of mounting anger, the mother of Malin tipped his hand saying "Oh God, if he really my son, I swear he became a rock". Not long after strong winds and severe storms rumbled come destroy the ship Malin Kundang. After that Malin Kundang body slowly becomes stiff and gradually eventually shaped into a rock.
Hopefully Folklore Malin Kundang and this becomes a lesson to be learned.
